Liana's - episode 1: catch me if you can.

Thanks for not asking about my thesis - episode 1

Catch me if you can!

Over the next seven weeks, my aim is to find ways of relieving stress, by testing out a range of inexpensive physical and/or mental activities. I hope these activities will provide me with a chance to take a small break from my thesis each week, and to experiment with vlogs. Each vlog will be accompanied by a written entry discussing the activity, as well as exploring a conceptual issue relating to vlogs, the Internet and participatory culture.

For my first activity, I went for a run through Carine Open Space. Exercise is a great way of relieving stress, and going for a run is a lot cheaper than a gym membership or a personal trainer. Running is a beneficial activity for a number of reasons including; it can help lower blood pressure, by maintaining the elasticity of the arteries, it also helps maximise the lungs’ potential, as it keeps them strong and powerful, and it helps keep the cardio system healthy and strong. Furthermore, as running makes the body function better, it can improve sleep, eating, and relaxation. Some runners can even feel a sense of euphoria after their physical exercise because betaendorphin is released when the neurons in the nervous system are triggered.

Considerations:

One of the conceptual issues of interest in creating vlogs, is the idea of privacy. While a vlog can be a personal entry, anybody throughout the world can watch it. While I can control how much information I can reveal about myself over the Internet, I cannot control who can access that information. The challenge I am setting myself over the next seven weeks, is to provide informative, interesting vlogs, that allow viewers to relate to my documentaries, but in a way that does not disclose too much personal information about myself.
