Shiok Mate Ep 3
This week, SHIOK, MATE! turns to Vietnamese cuisine as a source of maintaining a healthy diet.
With rice and vegetables usually being the key ingredients in almost every meal, the Vietnamese diet is one that tends towards vegetarianism and uses boiling as a primary method of cooking. Vietnamese food gets its distinct flavour mainly from mint leaves, coriander, lemon grass, shrimp, fish sauces, star anise, ginger, black pepper, garlic, basil, rice vinegar, sugar, and green onions – the combinations of which produce a wide variety of tasty marinades.
The preparation of Vietnamese food, unlike Japanese food however, does not focus so much on the appearance of its dishes. (It should be noted though, that both cuisines are equally delicious!) Keeping this in mind, I decided to experiment with a slightly different filming style in this episode by appearing in more scenes and playing a more ‘proactive’ role as host of the show – and more importantly, be seen enjoying my food! And again, I kept the duration of the video (and the scenes in it) short for fear of producing something too draggy.
RESTAURANT DETAILS:
Viet Nosh Vietnamese Cuisine
(B.Y.O)
43 Hampden Rd
Nedlands, WA
Tel: 9386 3429
Things to note:
Most of the main courses come up to slightly under $10 a plate, with relatively generous portions!
Make sure you make a reservation if you decide to give this place a go; it IS a small place!
Also, it would be good to give them a call to see if they’re open before you decide to go.
Till my next post, bon appetite everybody!
Denise
