Hedda's VLog: Fancy Places in Freo ... and Perth - Episode II
Hello guys,
And here it is: my 2nd VideoLog. Thanks for joining me again. This time I have been filming from up the Winthrop Hall Tower, located on campus of the University of Western Australia. As I pointed out in the VLog already, this tower ows its name to Sir John Winthrop Hackett, who donated the large sum of 425.000 £ to the University which allowed to build the beautiful limestone constructions with romanesque architecture, which is seen in the two magnificent main buildings known as Winthrop and Hackett Hall.
Apart from having found out more features on my camera phone, it was quite a journey going up these steps a few times and checking out the wind conditions 50 meters above the ground… By the way I deliberately took some wobbly shots in the stairway in order to create a bit of a ‘vertigo-like’ effect, such as Alfred Hitchcock’s did in his film ‘Vertigo’ (1958). Hitchcock also liked to take part in the movie himself not only behind the camera. With this in mind - this time you can catch a glimpse of myself at the very end… Eye-wink
So I hope I got you curious enough about the view that one gets from up there that you are going to check out Winthrop Hall Tower yourself sometime. Just go to the Visitor’s Center, leave your student card and off you go.
Cheers & sincerely yours, Hedda.
