Title : India, diversity vision personified.
Synopsis: With multitudes of languages, different cultures, different traditions, and existence of every possible religion, India is a classical example of unity in diversity.
Introduction:
The term culture refers to a state of intellectual development or manners. Indian culture is rich and diverse and as a result unique in its very own way. Our way of communicating with one another, manners etc are one of the important components of our culture. Though we have accepted modern means of living, improved our lifestyle, our values and beliefs still remain unchanged. A person can change his way of clothing, way of eating and living but the rich values in a person always remains unchanged because they are deeply rooted within our hearts, mind, body and soul which we receive from our culture. Indian culture treats guests as god and serves them and takes care of them as if they are a part and parcel of the family itself. Even though we don’t have anything to eat, the guests are never left hungry and are always looked after by the members of the family. Elders and the respect for elders is the most important aspect in Indian culture.
My initial aim for this project was to show Indian culture. The project targeted on areas such as North Indian marriage, Indian women attire, music, dance, festivals, sightseeing and sceneries. I also wanted to cover the Indian temples in Perth and Indian restaurants. I wished to put Indian music for all my blogs. But it was not possible. Therefore I chose music from I-movie in Mac computers. The music provided there were ultimate. Hence I preferred to use them. Another aspect I wished to cover was the Indian students in UWA and their experience in Perth. But due to time constraint, I was not able to make an interview with them. Finally I wanted to give voice over for my last blog with few interviews with my Indian fellow mates. But the time I chose was too late because of their exams. That was my only key concern which was not fulfilled.
Ideas explored:
My first blog was on Indian attire and marriage. In this blog my key concern was with the way I would show. The research I did for these two topics gave me information which I being an Indian did not know. The different varieties of attires and how it originated were very interesting to read. The marriage ceremony rituals were something that I wanted to explore with my first blog since I am a south Indian and I was always interested to know about North Indian wedding.
My second blog was on Bangalore city. Bangalore is my home town. The history of Bangalore city was an interesting aspect to know. My interest to know about Bangalore was first time arisen with this project. I wanted to show the main attractions of Bangalore and also wanted to cover the night life. In this due course I gained knowledge in many aspects about my own city. But it was not initially decided that I would do a blog on Bangalore. The main reason I decided to do an episode on Bangalore was because it was my home town and I would be able to get all the sources I would need for my blog to show one of the cities in India.
My third blog was on Sightseeing and Sceneries in India. I intended to explore the Karnataka state. Western ghats were the main topic I wanted to focus on. The videos I presented were all my own videos which were captured when I had visited the place. Though I had visited the place, I had no idea about the geography behind it. Through this blog I now have good amount of knowledge concerning all the sceneries I have shown in my video.
The fourth one was my favorite one. I am a big fan of Bollywood. I wanted to show all the stars casts and few of the very good bollywood films. My idea was to take few clips from the good movies and let it be in our Indian language. The subtitles would be in English translated. The idea was basically to get the viewers of my blog to know about our national language, Hindi
The problems I encountered mainly were:
With my first blog, due to copyright issues I was not able to show my culture completely since taking pictures from the web was not allowed. Since I chose India to be my topic, every idea that I wanted to share was difficult since I was not there in India. Secondly when there was an episode on Indian music, the research I did got my spirits low, because I was very ambitious with this project. Indian music is really vast. It was not something that could be covered in few minutes. I had to give up on that proposed topic. The other topic which I could not cover was Indian restaurants and temples in Perth. I could have done this but since I m new to this place I feared to go ahead and explore places all by myself. This reason will not be valid I fear. This would have been a successful one if I had gone ahead with it. The main problems I faced was getting all my videos and pictures from India. It was a very tedious process for my family to do this since they were not very comfortable with using internet. But because of this project , it has helped them as well to become more comfortable with use the internet.
My main concern was with background music. The first two weeks I spent only on searching for Indian music. But the journey was not very smooth. Because of time constraints I fetched the music from I movie maker. Finally, I could resolve most of the problems I faced with the help of all the contributors for this project.
In conclusion, next time I would like to do on Indians in perth. The number of Indians in perth is not less at all. It would be really interesting to do a project o their experiences. And I would like to carry this out with few Indian families first who are settled here and then come to the students. This project has taught me numerous skills about movie making, sounds, editing, and blogging . The experience of film making was completely felt.
